Why I love to Travel to the Philippines
Working for Conduit Global has allowed me to see many places in the world. I have been blessed to have spent time on 5 continents across 12 countries. But there is one place that is near and dear to my heart, and that is the Philippines.
Sure, I have travelled into Manila more than 60 times in the past 17 years, so it makes sense that it might be one of my favorite places. But, it’s not the number of visits that makes it special; it is the people and the culture.
Coworkers, customers, family, and friends always ask me about my trips to the Philippines. What’s it like? How’s the city? Do you feel safe? So, I thought I would share my experiences.
Landing at MNL airport after a typical 24-hour+ flight, I get an immediate sense of the friendliness of the country. Yes, even at the airport! Greeters saying “Mabuhay” (Live) with big welcoming smiles! Then a short ride later when I arrive at my hotel, multiple staff greet me with a sweet “Welcome back mam.” They remember me like family. The hospitality in this great country is the best in the world. So, my answer to what it’s like… it’s like my second home!
The city of Makati, where we first launched our business almost 20 years ago, is spectacular and I have always felt safe! There are lots to see and do, including great shopping, hotels, and restaurants. And with every trip, this city seems to expand. Where there were green fields, there are now beautiful modern high rises and a significant number of expansive malls! Every year new high-rises reshape the skyline, it’s hardly recognizable from my first visit in 2001. While the metro area has so much to offer, if there is one challenge everyone would agree on, it’s the traffic. I am here to tell you, the traffic IS as bad as people describe. But, it never stops me from enjoying my visit.
As much as I love the city, it’s the people that keep me coming back. The Filipino culture is friendly, smart, and creative! I can always count on lots of smiles and giggles from some of the most brilliant people I have met in the industry. When we made the decision to build contact centers in the Philippines, I never dreamed that it would become a staple in my life. I have met so many wonderful people in the Philippines over the years. I watched many relationships and families grow and more importantly, I met lifetime friends. By far this was the best business decision Conduit Global made.
